I recently watched the documentary ‘Embrace’ written & directed by Taryn Brumfit. What an eye opener!!
I knew most women have hated their body at some point in their life (myself included) but watching even straight sized women say they hated their body was confronting - 91% of us hate our body!!!
The statistics were mind blowing:
• 45% of women in the healthy weight range think they’re overweight
• 70% of women are dissatisfied with their body
• Plus sized models ridiculed by designers & other straight sized models. Considered second class & used as a gimmick
And this one statistic was the most shocking.
• More than 50% of 5 -12 year olds want to lose weight 😱
Then after that statistic hit me I listened to how some parents (not all) focus on their daughters appearance instead of praising what they do, their accomplishments.
Magazines, media/ social media help push the ideals of what beauty SHOULD be & not that all beauty, all sizes are beautiful. It’s such a shame but it is getting a little better.
Then you scroll through your social media & see the amount of Instagram models, beauty influencers, Youtube sensations, reality stars there are nowadays that are looked up to by millions purely on the basis of their looks.
No wonder most us don’t like the look of our body & strive for the unattainable when it’s pushed at us 24/7 we’re not enough as we are.
Why don’t we applaud it for how strong it is, how it can grow a human life in it, how nurturing it is - all in all ‘how bloody amazing it is!!’
We here at Sisterly Curves promote body positivity as we know our customers do not have the same body shape as us, as each other, even though they may wear the same size as someone else. It’s just a number on your jeans. It’s what makes us all unique & beautiful. It’s called ‘diversity’.
We try to make sure we have a wide range of preloved items in different sizes, styles to try & provide for all our old, current & new customers.
Embrace your body! Embrace its beauty! Love your body & be positive about all it does for you 💕
